Common Core
Oscar and Karla, you are both correct when you say we just need some time to develop some really good curriculum. The problem education has created is that we never let any new idea take its due course and give it a chance. Just when teachers seem to massage a curriculum together that works the higher ups swing the pendulum in the opposite direction. Teachers who have been around awhile remember when their curriculum was replaced by Open Court and the Open Court czars came around to every school to make sure that every teacher was on the exact same page at 9:15. Teachers are afraid to waste time developing new curriculum because they think right after all their hard work is done the district will come in with the new mandated plan.
The longer I am in this program the more I see the need to change education, but it seems daunting to know whether it should be from the bottom up or the top down.
